Rogue Trader Warning – Bryntirion

South Wales Police has been made aware of an incident involving a rogue trader operating in the Bryntirion area.

Residents are urged to be vigilant and aware of the warning signs commonly associated with rogue traders:

Warning Signs of Rogue Traders

• High-pressure tactics – Claiming urgent work is required immediately, such as a dangerous roof or broken tiles.

 • Requests for upfront cash payments – Asking for large sums of money or full payment before any work is completed.

 • No paperwork – Refusing to provide written quotations, contracts, company details, or information regarding cancellation rights.

 • Vague identity – Unable to provide official identification, operating from unmarked vehicles, or lacking verifiable trade credentials.

    Cold Calling: They knock on your door unannounced offering roof, driveway, or garden repairs.

How to Protect Yourself

• Say no – Do not feel pressured into agreeing to work. Close the door and end the conversation if necessary.

 • Get multiple quotes – Obtain at least three written quotations from reputable and recommended businesses before agreeing to any work.

 • Check credentials – Verify membership of recognised trade organisations and review independent customer feedback.

 • Pay safely – Never pay the full amount upfront. If required, only pay a small deposit and settle the balance once the work has been completed satisfactorily.
